Bekins strung me along then betrayed me

Hired Bekins movers to move my belongings into a new apartment. The guys did not put things where I told them to. I complained and a higher up said that he would come over and move the items to where they were supposed to be. He strung me along for days with this promise to make things right, then suddenly and inexplicably turned on me as if he hadn't made those promises -- blaming me and acting all put upon because I hadn't fixed the problem myself in the time he had me waiting for his promised assistance. Don't trust them. It's bad enough to do a poor job and be rude, but making promises and reneging on them really is an even lower low.

BEKIN - terrible moving service!

Hired Bekin to help us with a move to a new house because they're a national company that's supposed to be one of the biggest & best. Had them come over to our house and go over each item that had to be moved, explained exactly where everything goes, etc, and got an exact quote from them. We bought extra insurance from them, just in case, because we were moving a lot of expensive things/furniture. On the day of the move 2 guys show up and say that nobody told them there was going to have so much stuff & they don't have enough people, so they have to call for backup. It took them 14 hours to pack up our 2 bedroom apt and unload it in our new house, just 20 minutes away. In the process they broke some lamps & vases but no biggie. The next day we finally have a chance to look at everything and we're in shock - all of our furniture has bumps, scratches & missing pieces. The chest & vanity shelves do not open, the floor molding is broken in a few places and our brand new wood floors are all scratched! We called them immediately to complain, they said they'd send us forms to fill out which they didn't. Called 6 times before they finally sent the paperwork, 2 days before their 30-day complain period! We got it in before the deadline, only to get a letter 3 days later saying that we knew exactly what was wrong with everything and that we said no problem. They said I was going around the house dusting the furniture aware of the problems - hello! At 10pm?! I don't even dust! I have help to do that! They ruined tens of thousands of dollars worth of furniture & wouldn't take any responsibility for it. Forget the extra insurance - what a waste of money! I wouldn't recommend them to anybody! What a terrible experience from start to finish!

Bekins A-1 Movers Pottston, PA

For anyone thinking of using Bekins and in particular A-1 Movers, a business partner of Bekins - I would really caution you to do your homework and look at other alternatives. My move came in 20% OVER estimate (Industry average is 5 to 7%). The A-1 movers would not even discuss the issue with me, the treated me like street thugs, threatening legal actions when I would not give up or pay. Here are some of the facts, and I have paperwork and paper trails to backup these actions that are gross negligence on their part.

- A-1 Movers estimator did not show up for 2nd house visit to go over estimate and recheck figures against house, call and said he was busy but satisfied he had it all, would I just sign the papers and fax to him (do not fall for this! Make these bozos show up 3 times and re-estimate), he also in pre-sales visit told me the truck drive would give me before and after weight to ensure I knew, when I told them the driver did not do this I was told I have to request that - They say one thing in pre-sales and another in post move

- I also gave them the business of moving my car, again the estimator did not show up, he sent a worker to my house at 9 PM one night, when I told A-1 they got the length and weight wrong on car, they told me that was my responsibility!

- Bekins A-1 Corporate Credit VP is just a thug. Would not talk to me about my problems, just threaten me with legal and credit negative reporting. Calling as a customer, who wanted Bekins to discuss issues and come to some rational agreement , here is the response I got from A-1 Credit Manager LD:"I am the final decision maker on matters such as these as the Bekins Credit Director is (also would not talk to me) I am fully satisfied that you were not "wronged". You were charged Exact WEIGHT... What part of that do you not understand or comprehend? I am sorry to be so blunt sir but all I need to know at this point is you going to pay this, or do we pursue it?" - this was his initial response, not lets go over this, here is why - nothing - Just a street thug credit collector - EVEN THOUGH I HAD ENOUGH PHYSICAL EVIDENCE TO SHOW THIS MOVE WAS MISHANDLD BY BEKINS AND A-1 MOVERS. My choice was to pay them or pay a lawyer.

- The driver messed up our paperwork and counterfeited our signature on the paperwork he missed. While he told me he did this afterwards, can you imagine the wonder we had in thinking they would even think it was OK to do this?

- Pressing on , knowing I was right - their actual move charge being 20% over estimate went over the bids from United Movers and Mayflower Movers actual quotes - did A-1 movers do this on purpose to get the job? I don't know, but with all the evidence that they mismanaged this move and the fact they would not listen to me or give me any satisfaction, I do wonder.

- Instead of dealing with the fact of being 20% over, they responded time and time again with what a lousy customer I was! In this economy, can you imagine! Here is what J.R. the estimator told me "I will be weighing in as well. Also, you were not even ready to move on the agreed date of November 30th". He is referring to that I had open boxes when the movers were there.

- The owner of A-1 would not even respond to my concerns or communications. The customer service department of Bekins would not respond to my questions or concerns.

- In summary I was never a customer to these bums, A-1, once they were rewarded the job forgot about me, and treated me as if I was a paperwork trail they had to fill out. Bekins and A-1 movers would not discuss my issues or concerns, instead they used the above people / positions as street thugs and their responses were directed at trying to portray me as a lousy customer and not addressing the fact they were off by 20% on their bid! Ask yourself, if you did this lousy of a job at your workplace, would that be acceptable?

- I strongly suggest that A-1 Movers is not the option you should use, my experience tells me if there is a problem they will not help you. Bekins does not deserve your business because the only contact you may see from them is a credit department threatening you with legal and credit pressure. Plan on including in your move budget hiring a lawyer as part of your move if you use Bekins and A-1 Movers.

Bekins Moving & Storage Pottstown PA

Bekins Complaint I used Bekins Moving & Storage out of Pottstown PA for an interstate move. To make a very long story short, never never never use this company! They let me down in almost every way possible. I paid for them to pack, store my belongings, and complete the move. The best part of the service was the quote produced in a professional manner. The salesman seemed sincerely concerned about the quality of the service that would be provided. As soon as he had the sale, though, he didn't care at all about my experience. Even when I emailed him with my concerns based on how the packing went, and later when I emailed him about billing and other issues, he just passed the buck. Never helped me to resolve anything. The first day two guys came to pack me. I was surprised they didn't send more people. Seemed like a lot to get done in one day for 2 guys. The packing was one of the worst aspects of the move. So much of my stuff ended up broken, damaged, ruined from the horrible way it was packed. I could give you a list several pages long of everything they wrecked. Clothes (they packed a medium box full of my shoes, boots, purses just thrown in any which way"”expensive accessories ruined with being bent and creased), technology (they packed my main computer by putting in on its side on the bottom of a medium box with all the peripherals tossed in on top"”this computer never worked once I got it set up even after taking it in and paying to have it fixed"”have had to replace it) art (broken glass due to horrible packing) household goods ( a big lamp shade crushed"”lots of crushed boxes in my shipment). I wouldn't even pack a friend's stuff for free the way I paid these guys to pack my stuff. The movers were unprofessional. They showed up in street clothes (thought they would be wearing uniforms) that hung under their butts. Spent the day having to look at their underwear-covered butts. They had a loud argument in the parking lot at one point. They did not protect the furniture before putting it on dollies and I have permanent marks on furniture from this. The movers on the delivery end weren't great either. As soon as they arrived, one of them broke a torchere on the truck and tried to fix it himself without telling me. This lamp has never worked properly since. They tried to give me things off the truck that weren't mine. They started bringing stuff in without getting me set up with the inventory first. If I hadn't asked, I don't think they would have done it. The office staff of Bekins Moving & Storage of Pottstown made mistake after mistake. Started off by depositing a check that I had gotten advance approval for them to hold for 2 days. Billing errors for the storage every month. Speaking of storage, things that got stored like my dressers which still had the clothes in the drawers had sawdust in all the drawers. It looked like they had been stored in a barn. I had to wash all the clothes and completely clean out all the furniture, dressers, armoires, etc. Just what you want to have to do when you are trying to move in. I asked many times for the owner of that franchise to contact me. I asked numerous times for his contact info. I never got a response. When I went to Bekins at the corporate level (sent them a detailed letter with what had happened, pictures of all the damage) they were completely unsympathetic. Just kept telling me I should have bought the expensive insurance. I kept telling them I didn't think I had to pay for insurance to protect me from their services. To me, the extra insurance is in case the storage building burns down or the truck has an accident. I still don't think a consumer should have to buy expensive insurance so that when the company destroys the goods they have been hired to professionally pack and move the consumer can get paid for it. Corporate Bekins sent me a check for a couple hundred dollars which didn't cover a fraction of the damage they did. Do not use Bekins in Pottstown PA. If you have a problem (and you will) they won't care and won't help.

So it's my fault that these people didn't do their jobs correctly? I didn't know I was supposed to stand over them while they packed and watch how did it.

You can't believe there was sawdust in dresser drawers? Neither could I. And I'm the one who had to deal with it. I didn't buy the insurance--that was my point.

That they kept saying I should have bought the extra insurance and the only reason I needed it was because of what a *** job they did. And I have nice things--expensive furniture, fine art (which I paid extra to have crated)top of the line technology--which is why I selected a professional mover and paid money for professional packing services. In this post I didn't even go into the clothes that got wrecked because the wardrobe cartons were put together so slapdash that the bars fell down and the sharp edges put holes in expensive clothes like silk blouses.

I don't want to sound mean, but I sense that if all your stuff got wrecked it could be replaced at Kmart for under $1000. Maybe $750.

Okay, $500.

So I suggest you think twice before accusing a consumer of wanting her stuff ruined so she can collect $200. Have a nice day.

sounds like u had a lot of problems. but, i think some of them is yours.

if you saw them not packing your stuff right---you should have called them--THE COMPANY right then and there.i can't beleive you had saw dust in closed drawers. sounds like you are just trying to make some BIG quick bucks from the insurance you bought.

Review for Bekins Moving Co

Bekins movers are lying,incompetent cheaters who broke practically everything.They gave us several different quotes,they stored our furniture for a month,refused to take it out of storage if we didn't pay them twice the original amount.They said if we don't pay up,they will toss our stuff out of the unit.Then they doubled the initial quote and said at the end of the move that we had to pay for another truck to take into our community.They broke almost everything,they are not professional movers,just a bunch of dirty lying scam artists.Please don't ever use these crooks again.It is better to carry that heavy piece of funrinture on your own back.At least it will get there in one piece.

Why are they still operating???? they continue to provide this same shady, unprofessional service to unknowing victims. AND they have an A+ BBB rating...so crazy because if you do your homework, you still get screwed!!!!

ABSOLUTELY TERRIBLE! They double the price of our quote, then took 5 weeks to deliver it.

They would NEVER call us back, lied about where and when our stuff would arrive every time we talked to them. They have made our lives a living nightmare.

Any review you read that is positive about the company has been written by someone who works for them. Please don't make the same mistake we did.

While Bekins may not be the best movers out there we cannot judge the whole company by only 4 complaints. You must consider the volume of moves they do to the number of complaints. That being said, the number of complaints on other sites would steer me away from this company.

Moving company shafts us

AMMCO-Bekins moved our household belongings and stored them in the Dallas/Fort Worth area for several months while our home in the Houston area was being built. what they failed to break or damage, they lost or stole. we went to mediation with TXDot being the mediator they refused to mediate(AMMCO that is) so TX Dot is citing them. they may be fined up to 15K and we only need ed $300 to settle up. If that's not *** I don't know what is, I still want our $300.00 TxDot says we can retain a lawyer.

:( Sears delivered an appliance to my home,they had to remove my door and did not replace it correctly,(because they broke a piece off)and messed up my window covering,my calls were ignored and they made no effort to resolve it.Sears did answer the first call,took the complaint and never followed up,the call was not handled in a professional manner either.GOOD LUCK!!

:eek Just so you know that is nothing new. Ammco stole a lot of things from many different customers.

Their owner and General Manager stole money from the employees too and try to blame it on everyone but themselves. They also burned down their own building to hide records.

You are only seeing one part of this. I hope it works out for you.
